Zanzu was a stray cat who I adopted in its final stages of life. Someone must have thrown him out because we had never seen him and one Monday evening he just popped out of nowhere. In the beginning he didn't seem poorly, he was rather thin. But as days went by, and we started feeding him ( or her .. we never found out), his belly seemed to be swelling by the second and he developed cat flu which led him to loosing sight in one eye. At the beginning when I started administrating medicine to him, he wasn't very friendly and he bit me quite a number of times. But as he grew weaker, I seemed to turn into his bestest friend. I would cradle him for hours and he would rest his tiny head on my chest. At one point I took him to the vet, and he told me that he had 40% chance of survival and that he wasn't in any pain. I went home determined that I would do my best for him to survive. I bought him cat stuff and he found a blanket on which he would stay waiting for me to come from work. After around 5 days he grew very weak, even finding it impossible to walk about 1 metre. I booked him in to see the vet on the 28th of August, but sadly we never made it. He passed away that night. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through.. clearing his stuff away and phoning the vet to cancel my appointment. He did suffer from a lot of things, and maybe we should have put him to sleep before, but 1 thing that I'm sure of is that his last few days were the most comfortable he could have gotten. He suffered from tumours, blindness in one eye, sever cat fever, water retention and worming.
Zanzu u r my angel. U are missed by everyone, and we speak of you everyday, believe me! I have never gotten over losing you, and that you died alone. I will never forget you. And I hope u r watching me from Cat Heaven taking care of all your other stray friends and giving them shelter when they want it. I love you my baby... nothing and noone will ever replace you!

Beyond the Rainbow
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
